Charity hopes for television boost

A CHARITY based in Winchester is hoping to share in a fund-raising pot that will be generated by an upcoming television show.

The BBC's 'Lifeline' programme focuses on a different good cause each month. For July, it will highlight the work of the 340 Homestart branches across Britain.

The one in Winchester has already helped more than 100 families since it was launched in 2005. The charity trains volunteers who offer advice and support to parents who need a helping hand.

Anne Macpherson, co-ordinator of the Winchester branch, said: "It's great to get national recognition for our work and the money raised will be greatly appreciated as we are always looking for extra funds."

The programme is due to be shown at 2.20pm on Sunday, July 20, on BBC1.

The amount the Winchester branch receives will depend on how much the show raises. Lifeline has generated £6m for 250 good causes during the last 20 years.
