Misled over PO till availability
SIR - A few months ago I attended the public meeting in the Guildhall regarding the transfer of the main post office to the WH Smith store.
One of the concerns expressed was that long queues would develop at the front of the store, but we were assured this would not happen as there would be five tills fully manned at busy times.
One recent Saturday just before 10am (surely one of the busiest times of the week), I joined a queue of 20 people and saw that there were only two tills open.
On complaining to a member of staff I was supported by others who said they had similar experiences at other times in the week.
Ten minutes later as I reached a till the manager arrived and in fairness started serving himself.
But he seemed unaware when I pointed out the public assurance which had been given.
It seems, therefore, that not only were we misled at that meeting by the Post Office about their proposed service, but also by the WH Smith management about theirs!
