What about the North Walls gully?
SIR - There has been correspondence in the Hampshire Chronicle recently about the county council failing to empty a gully.
A good example is by the pedestrian crossing/bus stop in North Walls.
After rain a large puddle forms in the gutter. This event has been going on for months, and the wise pedestrian learns to stand well back from the pavement to save getting soaked while waiting at the crossing.
I wrote to the council in February this year about this and was informed that the matter would be resolved early in the new financial year.
Needless to say absolutely nothing has been done. It seems to me that the only standing water the council is interested in is the bottled variety they spend so much on for their offices.
While on the subject of council neglect, now is the good time to examine the weeds growing in the gutter in King Alfred Place, part of an alleged conservation area.
Some are now over two feet tall, but we will never know their full potential as the council have finally got round to spraying them.
No doubt we will now have a gutter full of dead weeds instead of healthy ones, as it is very unlikely the gutters will be swept - the last time being April 2007, no not a typing error, 15 months ago.
