Horror – PO has lost its crown
SIR - What a Carry On at the People's Post Office.
Following recent correspondence in your paper with regards to post offices, Get More' is the poster displayed in the window of the new Post Office enticing customers to use its products.
So with a new set of first day covers and stamps on line, I could buy them at the new People's Post Office within WH Smith in Winchester - but oh, what horror that was to be!
I tried to purchase Mint Stamps, First Day Cover, Presentation Pack and Stamp Cards, and what a carry-on it was.
First of all the cashier looked blank at my request, disappeared round the back, then informed me that the stamps were locked in the safe and this was 15 minutes after opening.
So I waited and waited, only to be told by a manager who was in the PO training that "because Winchester was not a main Post Office, all the items that I wanted to buy were not available".
The manager took my order and assured me that I would be able to get the new stamps franked with the first day cover postmark.
Seven days later, with still no call from the Post Office, I decided to chase it up.
I spoke to the manager who said: "We are waiting for the stamps to arrive."
I said that I had missed the first day postmark and she said: "There is nothing I can do about it."
The stamps were about Carry On and Hammer Horror Films!
The crown has fallen from The People's Post Office.
