Spend cash on ground, not in air
SIR - Hampshire Police say there are 81 vacancies they cannot fill due to lack of money (Chronicle, June 19).
I can suggest one immediate cost saving. Ditch the fixed wing spotter plane based at Lee-on-Solent.
It must be the least cost-effective means of policing and must cost thousands to scramble each time.
Spend the money on the ground where it's needed.
