SIR - We have just received our copy of, Perspectives from Winchester City Council.
May I suggest that they need to look up the definition of the word.
It is, "the proper or accurate point of view or the ability to see it".
They might then like to reconsider if it is appropriate to waste our money on a magazine with such deliberately biased and erroneous pieces of propaganda as their one on Alternate Bin Collection.
It is not, as they state, a "big hit with residents".
I have not met anyone in favour of this unhygienic, cost-cutting deterioration in service.
We may be recycling more as the article goes on to say, but that does not make fortnightly bin collection (to give it its proper name) popular. There is, of course, no direct correlation between recycling and fortnightly bin collection.
We can recycle just as well and have our bins collected weekly, as in any civilised country.
If one goes on to read the council's advice on keeping maggots out of our bins, as a result of fortnightly collection, one sees that they recommend double-wrapping all meat and fish waste and thoroughly washing the bin, presumably on a regular basis.
That makes for increased plastic and water use - hardly environmentally-sound ideas.
They do not even mention how to deal with rat problems.
It is probably too difficult to dress those up as a good news story. Perhaps I can help: Residents delighted with their new, furry friends living in their gardens'.
I suggest that the council bins Perspectives and saves a lot of paper and our money and concentrates on service instead.
They might save enough to reinstate weekly bin collection.
