No threat to Wilts Air Ambulance
WILTSHIRE Air Am-bulance is not under threat from a new service brought in by Great Western Ambulance's new emergency helicopter.
There had been fears that the Devizes-based helicopter, used by the police and part funded by the pubic, would be grounded as a result of a new Bristol-based ambulance but trust chief executive Tim Lynch dismissed these fears in a letter to Wiltshire County Council's leader Jane Scott.
"We are grateful to the people of Wiltshire for their support of Wiltshire Air Ambulance and for the funds they contribute to the Air Ambulance Appeal," said Mr Lynch.
"We also support the charity and we only want to see the service get even better."
The service, which has been flying for more than 15 years, is one of the few air ambulances able to operate in darkness and can reach all parts of Wiltshire within eight minutes.
Fears had been expressed that places such as Tidworth and Ludgershall, in the east of the region, would lose out if the area was to be served by an air ambulance based at Filton in Bristol.
