AN Alresford cul-de-sac will more than double in size after a scheme for 23 new homes was approved.
Linden Homes have been told it can extend John Arlott Court, off Grange Road, to accommodate a total of 40 dwellings.
The current 17-home street, also built by Linden Homes and completed in 2006, will be expanded to occupy the rear gardens of 22-32 Grange Road.

Winchester City Council rejected similar plans in January, but officers, using delegated powers, approved the scheme after the applicant addressed their concerns about a lack of affordable housing and the size and appearance of the development.
Planners received three objections from nearby residents who were worried about a lack of parking in the street and the width of John Arlott Close at its junction with Grange Road, which, they say, is unsafe.
The development will comprise four one-bedroom apartments and eight two-bedroom, seven three-bedroom and four four-bedroom homes.
Just under a third of the 23 homes will be affordable, although the mix between dwellings available for rent and shared ownership has yet to be finalised.
Michael O'Brien, design and planning director at Linden Homes Southern, said: "We are delighted with this result. We worked hard to make sure the final plans responded to the comments we received from the local community.
"Over the past few months detailed discussions have been ongoing with the city council's planning and urban design officers to make sure we had the best scheme for the site's future."
"This is a real opportunity to provide a high quality scheme with a mix of homes that have been designed to reflect and enhance the character of Grange Road."
As part of the application, the homebuilder will contribute £35,000 to Alresford's open spaces fund, which can be used by the town to improve its recreation facilities.
Work on the new development is expected to begin in August or September and will last for 18 months.
Mr O'Brien said that the company had no plans to extend the street beyond 40 homes. He added he was encouraging neighbours of the development to contact him on 0800 298 7040 if they had any questions.
